Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993 - 1997) >>>> "Desperate Lois" In Fun Romantic Comedy of Superman

I didn't really pay attention to this series when it was aired on SCTV more than a decade ago. First, because it was dubbed in Indonesian language that sometimes sounded weird to me. And second, too many dialogs. Well, I first expected a lot of action like in Superboy back when I was still elementary school, but slowly this series amazed me in a weird way. And SCTV then stopped dubbing the series.

I guess everyone is already familiar with Superman plot like I did. But Lois & Clark twisted the famous plot on its own (it happened a lot in Smallville too). Well this is the summary of the plot (unlike Smallville, Lois & Clark focused on the story when Clark and Lois worked as reporters in Metropolis).

Jonathan and Martha Kent witness the crash-landing of a small spaceship in Shuster's Field outside of Smallville, Kansas. When they investigate the craft, they discover the baby Kal-El. The Kents decide to raise him as their own. Soon we know him as Clark Kent a.k.a Superman

Unlike the continuity in the comics, in which they are deceased, Jonathan and Martha are very much alive in the the series and frequently visit Clark in Metropolis throughout the series. Martha proudly Martha makes Superman costume for Clark!!

Twenty-seven years later, Clark moves to Metropolis and gets a job at Daily Planet. Clark also becomes acquainted with co-workers Jimmy Olsen, a photographer. Soon after being hired, Clark is partnered with star reporter Lois Lane (who else?). Although Clark falls for Lois at first sight, she considers him little more than a geek. When Superman saves her however, Lois instantly becomes infatuated with Clark's alter-ego (Everybody knows that..!!).

Superman's first mission interferes with the illegal dealings of Lex Luthor (not bald here), a benefactor to Metropolis who is secretly evil. Luthor develops an interest in Lois Lane and tries to woo her. Although Lois is receptive to his romantic advances, she remains infatuated with the Man of Steel. Lex eventually proposes marriage, and Lois accepts. But...you know the rest, and hey no Lana and Chloe here, ha..ha

Later on, Clark and Lois begin to date, but are interrupted by new villain Mayson Drake, a District Attorney who takes an interest in Clark but has a total lack of regard for Superman (that's why we call him a villain, he..he). Meanwhile, a Federal Agent named Dan Scardino becomes a rival for Lois' affections.

Here is the best part....In the season finale, Clark proposes to Lois. She replies

"Who's asking, Clark or Superman?"

Yes, Lois has discovered Superman's secret identity and resents that Clark never confessed it to her. After several odds, Lois finally accepts Clark's engagement ring. Oh.

This is a romantic comedy series, guys. So every episode focused on Lois and Clark's relationship instead of Superman saving the world. It was a fun show. Ah, I miss 90's
