GET MARRIED THE SERIES >>> Why Is It Still Called GET MARRIED??

TV series for kids is quite rare nowadays. Kids here in Indonesia tend to love to watch Japanese cartoon, so when this series came out it is hoped to be such a good positive exposure for kids. By positive exposure I mean a TV series that does not include magic or super power in the plot. Last year we had KEPOMPONG that marked the major comeback of Derby Romero, from a kid star into a teen idol. Kepompong's plot revolved around teens in their junior years, and the series we are talking about is about Mae and her "three musketeers"'s daily adventure in their elementary school.

If you are Indonesian citizens, you really know that this series is based on a box office movie GET MARRIED played by very talented young actors: Nirina Zubir, Aming, RInggo, and Desta. This movie has a hit sequel too: Get Married 2.

The plot in the movie revolves around Mae, a tomboyish girl who has three close male friends. Mae's parents is sick worried with their daughter's attitude. They then try many tricks to get Mae a husband. With a help from her three musketeers, Mae keeps intimidating her future husband until the right one comes along and things change between she and her friends and the way she thinks about men. Ooh I forgot to tell you that Mae and her friends love SLANK (a huge band) so much and Slank's songs are the soundtracks of the movie.

So what about the series? It's a kid version of Mae and her friends. Jaja Miharja still plays Mae's father. Merriam Bellina is replaced by Lydia Kandou (no worry, they both are great). Other comical characters (read: teachers) are added.

The series tells Mae's daily adventure when she and her friends were still in elementary school. Well I think it could have been better if the setting was really followed the time line in the movie: 80's. Perhaps it is hard and expensive to build 80's setting so they just adopted the story.

The kid actors played very well so far. They are natural and amazing. One thing that annoys me is Derry Drajat (the teacher) who always overacts in every scene. Derry is a great actor but he seemed to misinterpret his character. Jaja Miharja and Lydia Kandou are amazing in many ways. They are the only reason I watch this series at the very first place.

Though this series try to explore more on Mae's daily life, but certain plots in some episode's are really weird (I mean amnesia? come on...!). I hope they just keep it real and not to be too dramatic. And, hey...why is it still called Get Married?? I mean, yes they try to announce that it is based on the movie, but isn't it weird??

After all, this series is great.
